I read in utter disbelief that gates worth £20,000 are to be erected one end of Madeira Drive to prevent boy racers speeding along it (The Argus, June 28).
I have read the piece again and again but cannot make any sense of it. Apparently, several youngsters have died or been seriously injured in high-speed car crashes there.
It would seem Brighton and Hove City Council officials and the police are aware when racing is going to take place. Why on Earth cannot the police prosecute for dangerous driving or similar to prevent this anarchy, instead of erecting gates?
Surely £20,000 would easily cover police prosecution costs? Some comment from the Sussex Constabulary on their reasoning would be interesting.
