Councillor Bob Clare has the important job of looking after Worthing's residents.

But do not be surprised if you spot him driving around in one of his open-top MG sports cars.

His passion for the classic cars was fuelled by renovating an "old heap", which he snapped up for a mere £5 as an 18-year-old.

Bob was one of a rare breed of car owners at university and today he still turns heads as a middle-aged councillor in an MG.

Even more admirable was his commitment to restoring the cars from scratch.

Good for Bob that he has stayed young at heart by caring for his beloved MGs - and Worthing's residents But now his MG renovation has taken a back seat after his party seized control of Worthing Borough Council. He should be commended for putting the residents of the town, and Mayor Eric Mardell, in the driving seat.
