Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 3 was one of the bestselling games for the PlayStation 2 and it has now been converted for PC users.
The conversion retains all the original's gameplay and makes use of PC horsepower to extend players' life of crime.
The object of the game is, quite simply, to steal cars and use them for mostly-illegal purposes.
Although it is possible to play the game as a taxi driver, fireman or paramedic, this isn't as much fun as running errands for the mafia and far less lucrative.
The biggest change from previous games in the series is the introduction of a 3-D gaming environment, which replaces the old top-down view.
Old-school gamers needn't fret though. Keeping track of your pursuers, of which there will be many, is as easy as pushing a single key or mouse button and switching to firstperson mode allows you to check for oncoming traffic and over-zealous police.
Navigating the streets and alleyways is easier in 3-D, which is good because the game is much bigger than previous versions.
The game's best feature lets you play through the story line in whatever way you want. Some players will adopt a smash-and-grab strategy while others will prefer a stand-up fight.
Although it has a good sense of humour, Grand Theft Auto 3 contains violence, sex and crime and has a welldeserved 18 certificate.
