A group of lifeguards has responded to a rescue appeal in The Argus which has safeguarded the future of a popular pool.
Hundreds of children were almost forced to do without the open-air Woodingdean swimming pool this summer.
We reported last month how a shortage of lifeguards meant the pool could not open for the first time in 24 years.
But the article prompted four people to volunteer their services which meant the pool in Warren Road was able to open last Monday, as planned.
Theresa Andrews, one of the pool's fundraisers, said: "Everything's going swimmingly after all. We're operating on a skeleton crew but we're open. That's the main thing.
"We've now got a full-time lifeguard and three part-time lifeguards to look after the children, thanks to The Argus."
The pool will stay open until the end of the summer holidays.
