I, too, am very concerned about the local environment and developments in Brighton and Hove (Letters, July 2 and 4).
So much for Brighton and Hove City Council promoting the city to tourists and business far and wide (the Place To Be and where else campaigns) - this has resulted in the city being scarcely fit for local people to walk around in to pursue their daily lives.
At weekends, visitors pour into the city for car rallies, bike rides, Party In The Park and so on. There are far too many for the centre and seafront to contain.
Western Road is now an unpleasant area for older people to shop. Crowds of young people throng it. There is scarcely a public toilet, unlike other places. The council seems to revel in mounting roadworks during the busiest season of the year, adding to congestion and noise. It is
difficult for residents on business to drive around the city and, as for parking, see Trevor Pateman's various letters to this page. And house prices? Paul Hubbard said it all (Letters, July 4).
The council must wake up. Enough is enough. Stop selling Brighton and Hove and reclaim it for Brightonians, born or adopted. We just
cannot cope with any more newcomers.
