My support goes to Selma Montford commenting on ageing planning applications that do not deserve to get off the ground (Letters, July 3).
A problem with local authority planning is party politics.
The Tories, in their manifesto, suggest building underground car parks along the seafront. Alternatively, Brighton and Hove City Council favours building affordable housing along the same seafront to finance a new King Alfred sports complex. Additionally, speculators have applied to build seasonal seafront retail outlets - cafes, pubs, restaurants and casinos (but no jetty) - to fund restoration of Brighton's West Pier.
Perhaps the Monster Raving Loony Party will suggest retaining sea views, bathers, deckchairs and Punch and Judy rather than having other party-political madness?
