The report by Aidan Radnedge (The Argus, July 4) gave an insight into the number of examinations pupils have to sit nowadays.

The overhaul of the A-level system has given them a lot more work than before.

With having to study four or five subjects in their first year of sixth form to sit AS level at the end of that year, I wonder if these exams could be spread out over the year?

With the pupils having to choose three subjects to take for the A2 level exams a year later, and because they are seen as a gold standard counting towards gaining a university place, it would be a great help to the pupils if they, too, were staggered over the year.

The current arrangements are causing stress to both pupils and staff. Something needs to be done to ease this stress.

Examinations are an important way of recognising achievement and pupils and staff would benefit if more time was allowed between exams to ensure the best possible results were gained by the pupils.
