Clymping no longer fear the spectre of relegation following their narrow win over fellow Invitation League strugglers Burgess Hill.

Benn Challen's side scraped to a 14-run win against Hillians thanks to the Tester brothers, Adam and Gary.

The pace duo cleaned up the Burgess Hill tail just as they threatened to clinch victory.

Earlier the home side scored 136 with skipper Challen (30) and Kim Dean (29) among the runs. John White took 5-33.

In reply, John Atkins scored 43 for Hill who finished short of the target on 122. Adam Tester took 5-34, Gary Tester claimed two wickets and Challen and Karl Pearce one apiece.

Challen said: "I was never worried until their No.11 came in and looked like he could bat. I told the team beforehand that it was vital we won otherwise we could have found ourselves in the relegation places this weekend because we don't have a game and everyone else is in action."

Southwick were left to rue the absence of key bowler Paul Grennan as they failed to dismiss bottom club Eastergate.

The draw leaves Mark O'Keefe's side second from bottom and in dire need of points.

Southwick batted first and scored 204-4 with Steve Martin (86) and Chris Summers (55 not out) batting well.

Martin then proved his ability as an all rounder, taking 4-36 as Eastergate closed on 152-9.

Skipper O'Keefe admitted it was a blow not to finish off the opposition and added his team has to start winning quickly.

He said: "Hopefully we can get a couple of wins starting against Lindfield this weekend and we are going to need everyone to pull together."

Lindfield pulled off a surprise result by winning by two wickets at Arundel.

The home team batted first and Phil Weir took 5-27 as third-placed Arundel slumped to 102 all out.

Ned Sutton made 29 in reply for Lindfield who reached 106-8 to seal victory. Neil Chitty took 3-27.

Graham Page, the visitors' No. 3, said: "It was a struggle on a wet wicket. It dried out a bit for us but the result was never secure until the last couple of balls. Arundel bowled tight and made us fight hard for the win."

Arundel's defeat means Pagham have extended their lead over their rivals to 25 points. More importantly Craig Primmer's team are also within 12 points of Findon, although the champions have a game in hand after their rest weekend.

Pagham defeated Ifield by six wickets to maintain the pressure. Batting first the home team were all out for 101 as Primmer took 4-12 and 15-year-old spinner Sean Rutter claimed 3-14. In reply Pagham overcame the early loss of Chris Hayden and David Lever to close on 103-4. Mark Hoare and Mark Woolnough put on 66 in their partnership.

Primmer said: "The crunch is going to be the game against Findon in two weeks time. That is the focus now and we will be working on our game up to then.

"We'll have to sharpen up our fielding because we can't afford to drop catches against Findon. We lost to them heavily earlier this season and the test will be if we can turn it around and dominate them."

Leaders Broadwater are 60 points clear at the top of Division Two following their five-wicket win over Pulborough.

The visitors were all out for 109 as Joe Owen took 4-25. In reply Broadwater were 112-5 with Mark Sinsbury scoring 45.

Barns Green were held to a draw at home by Henfield. The visitors batted first and made 247-8 largely thanks to 89 from Paul Vedamuttu. Green could only manage 120-5 in reply with Olly Lampkin making 61. Alistair Allcock took 5-55.

Petworth Park forfeited their match against Keymer and Hassocks after the bottom side were unable to raise a team.
