A video production company is bringing together some of the Brighton and Hove's top multimedia talent to make sure this year's Big Beach Boutique is a success.

Hove's Fatboy Slim, alias Norman Cook, returns to the beach on Saturday for another free gig and Plastic Reality have landed the job of providing the visuals to accompany the DJ's set.

The company first caught Norman's eye after producing the video for his single, Star 69. He then invited Plastic Reality to create and perform the visuals at last year's event.

Plastic Reality's Tim Fleming, along with his colleagues Mat Consume and Dan Evans, have brought together some of the city's leading design talent to contribute animation, which will be mixed live on the night.

As well as creating video sequences and animation inhouse, Plastic Reality has commissioned work from Brighton-based digital media specialists, Kerb, and 3-D animation house Specular Graphics, which was launched by ex-Kerb designer Jim Howells and is also Brighton-based.

Kerb has also been commissioned to produce the next video for rock-band The Levellers.

Plastic Reality will be using software developed by new media developers Brighton ART. Running from laptops, the animation sequences will be mixed live on the giant screen behind the stage.

Last year's free concert was sponsored by Channel 4 and attracted 40,000 people.

Thousands more people will be able to watch this summer's gig live on E4.

Brighton and Hove City councillors gave the go-ahead for the major open-air event after the success of the one last summer.

Norman will meet estimated costs of £200,000 to £250,000 himself.
