I read with annoyance the recent article on Noel Brookes and the closure of his bookshop in Queen's Road, Brighton (July 3).
The impression given was that there was no order to the shop and he is some sort of morose sociopath.
Although the shop was perhaps overstocked, the books were arranged alphabetically and by subject.
Mr Brookes himself, when treated with respect, was unfailingly polite and helpful, although by no means willing to suffer fools gladly.
He would often disappear into his shop and retrieve books if they were hard to find.
Also, he was the only book dealer in the area to offer a fair price when buying second-hand books, which probably contributed to his downfall. His bookshop will be sorely missed.
