A popular bar chain has revealed it is planning to step up its recycling operation.

Glass and cardboard previously binned at two of the C Side group's watering holes in Brighton and Hove is now being collected for recycling.

The firm now wants to extend the scheme.

Brighton recycling business Magpie recently signed a deal with the chain to collect waste from the Polar Bar in Western Road and Greens in West Street.

Now C Side has revealed it wants to extend the deal after an employee spoke out against binning glass and cardboard.

Lee Simon, managing director of the company, said he believed the group had an "obligation" to recycle.

Mr Simon said: "We think the recycling service has been very good and we want to extend it across the whole chain.

"Recycling is an issue for pubs and bars. It is a shame there is so much waste."

Mr Simon said he acquired the chain of trendy pubs last year and was now aiming to make the company greener.

He said: "We all have an obligation to do our bit.

"It is a big thing in Brighton and we are proud to be a Brighton-based company."

Rob Jones-Mantle of Magpie said: "At the Polar Bar and Greens we are collecting waste once or twice a week. Hopefully we'll expand it across the chain.

"We would encourage the stance C Side has taken."
