An animal lover has bared all to highlight the plight of bulls in Spain.

Matthew Wilson, 25, ran naked through the streets of Pamplona to protest about the annual Running Of The Bulls fiesta.

Matthew was one of 25 activists from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) who stripped off in a bid to draw attention to what they say is the mistreatment of the animals.

Matthew, of Seven Dials, Brighton, said: "A few onlookers were quite amazed and looked at us a bit strangely.

"But a crowd of around 400 people gathered to watch and afterwards many of them came up and congratulated us.

"It was a very positive experience.

"I expected some of the younger people to be opposed to bullfighting and the running of the bulls, but not the older generation."

Matthew was comfortable about his streaking.

He said: "Once you've taken your clothes off you almost forget about it because it's for a good cause.

"The adrenaline starts pumping and you're with other people.

"You just think about the positive message you are sending out."

The runners, who followed the same mile-long route as the bulls, also hope to start a new Spanish tradition.

Matthew said: "We've started a human race that allows everyone to participate and which could spell the end of the cruel bull run.

"If tourists saw how much these animals suffered, they'd pack their bags and leave."

PETA says many bulls are weakened by laxatives before they enter a ring, or have their eyes smeared with petroleum jelly.
