Employers have voiced concerns that a Government review of employment law could load unnecessary burdens on firms.
The Engineering Employers'
Federation (EEF) told Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt it was worried over the timing of the review and whether it would reopen a debate on issues it thought had been settled.
Deputy director of employment David Yeandle said:
"The Employment Relations Act has only been in force for a couple of years and the Employment Bill has still to complete its passage through Parliament.
"The likely increase in regulatory burdens on employers seems to fly in the face of ministerial statements about supporting the sector."
