A Brighton printer's fast service won praise when stepped in at short notice to produce an information pack Up the Ladder, for the London-based Children's Rights Officers and Advocates.

Digital print specialist XPS, based at Portslade Business Park, was recommended to Kristyn Wise, children's rights officer for Brighton and Hove City Council and coauthor of the pack, when was discovered the organisation's usual supplier was unable to meet the print specification.

She said: "We made this discovery rather late in the production process."

The project was a colourful, laminated guide to the rights of children in care or with special needs, of which there are more than 350 in Brighton and Hove.

The outer cover was snakes and ladders game highlighting the benefits of young people's participation in the services, systems and structures that affect their lives. A pack of coloured, laminated leaflets gave the data in a lively, reader-friendly form.

Ms Wise said: "This is essentially a good practice guide to the rights of children in care. It will be used across the UK and we are confident will have a significant impact on the relationships between the children and their carers."

Greg Roach, from XPS, said:

"It's always satisfying to see a job come to fruition but this gave us particular pleasure because of the challenges involved in the production.

The pack looks very attractive and I'm sure it will be well received."
