Paul Campbell-James has won a world title.

The 19-year-old, from Sidlesham, skippered the British team that claimed the World University Match Racing Championship crown in Quiberon, France.

Campbell-James, the former Royal Yacht Association Young Sailor of the Year, said: "I'm delighted, particularly as it was the first staging of the event.

"We made mistakes early on but all the crew worked hard to rectify them and we came through.

"It was fun and I was quick to phone my family and friends back home."

Competitors raced in Beneteau First Class 8 boats and fresh winds blew for most of the regatta.

Campbell-James and his crew only dropped one race during the whole competition and cruised home in the final against Russia.

Meanwhile his brother Mark, the former world youth match racer, won an international event at Salerno in Italy. Competitors were in J22's for the grade three competition.

Mark is now world ranked 47th and Paul 51st and both are in the top four in Britain.

They hope for America's Cup places.
