Martin Hinshelwood will go for experience as he looks to strengthen Albion's squad for their First Division adventure.

The new Seagulls boss gave a debut to striker Bradley Allen in last night's satisfying 4-1 friendly win at Worthing.

Allen, 30, reached landmarks of 200 appearances and 50 goals in league football playing for Grimsby last season.

He was previously at QPR and Charlton and is on trial with Albion until the start of next week as the Mariners look to trim their wage bill.

Allen was involved in most of Albion's better attacking moments in last night's first half and will be given further chances to impress at Sutton tomorrow and Crawley on Saturday.

Hinshelwood said more new faces could be on board by the time his side run out at Broadfield Stadium.

He said: "We are looking at certain areas where we know we need to bring in experienced players who have played at this level.

"Our most experienced player is Robbie Pethick, who has played more than 250 league games.

"We are a bit light on players of that experience. Bradley is a quality player, he has scored a lot of goals, and I felt he was neat and tidy. We will see how he goes this week."

He added: "We have spoken to Bradley and one or two others but now I have been appointed we can kick on a little bit and hopefully in the next week or so we will get a couple more new faces in.

"We might have a couple for the weekend but I'm not promising it. I'm quite happy with these boys, they have got a big opportunity in the next two or three games."

Pethick, who has never scored in serious action for the Seagulls, was certainly the senior partner last night with two thumping right foot finishes.

Nathan Jones was also on target and David Lee added a late tap-in against a spirited Worthing side who led for 14 minutes through with Mark Knee's well taken header.

Allen, who went close a couple of times, said: "Speaking to the staff here they need a bit of experience. If I can contribute that I will be delighted."

Hinshelwood, who was applauded to the dugout by fans for the first game since his appointment as Peter Taylor's successor, fielded completely different line-ups for each half.

He expects to adopt a similar approach to the Sutton and Crawley run outs.
