I agree with M A Tuck (Letters, July 12) about pavement cyclists. Recently, one collided with me on the pavement of Windmill Bridge in Rustington, a hotbed for them.
He glanced off my shoulder and almost came off his bike into the road. Had a juggernaut lorry been passing, a nasty mess could have resulted.
He returned, demanding why I had nearly knocked him off. I explained, "I did not mean to, but this is a pavement and that is the road".
He departed with veiled threats of violence. I have not seen him since.
Before our do-gooders and trendies claim the roads are unsafe for cyclists, let me say I have cycled for most of my life, in all conditions, and hardly ever felt endangered by other road users, who usually seem considerate of cyclists.
Perhaps I have good road sense, whereas the pavement cyclists have not? Why must a yob cycle on the pavement in darkness, with no lights, when there is no traffic on the road anyway?
The authorities and police should give a proper ruling on this before someone is killed - even if it is only a pavement cyclist.
