Despite the comments from both sides of the fence it appears obvious that two factors contributed to the huge crowd at Normstock II.

Firstly, holding the event on a Saturday gave people from all over the southern half of the country the opportunity to get into Brighton.

Last year's event was on a Friday and so had a natural limiting effect on the attendance.

Secondly, and probably more crucially, promoting this event nationally on Channel 4 and E4 TV advertisements surely generated huge interest outside Brighton.

I had a great time and feel it captured what is unique about Brighton. The event was free and the people who attended where out to enjoy themselves, not to cause trouble.

Let's have a little common sense now the storm is starting to calm down. The most practical solution to keeping numbers to manageable levels is to allocate tickets.

What I would like to see is the allocation tiered so residents of Brighton and Hove and its surrounding area have first refusal.

Keeping this event largely local is the key to restoring its good name and may well be the only way to ensure it continues.
