Keith Jackson is the new chairman of the Sussex Table Tennis Association.

The 55-year-old stepped in at the 11th hour at the annual meeting of the Sussex Association in his home village of Hurstpierpoint.

Jackson, who was chairman for seven years until a year ago, said: "I am pleased to be back. When I was told that Trevor Wiramanaden had pulled out after a year, I responded to the call.

"There are a whole raft of problems to be sorted out for this coming season.

"But I am sure they can be tackled by the delegates and their teams of helpers throughout East and West Sussex."

Jackson has two sporting passions.

Not surprisingly, table tennis is one of them, although he has now retired as a veteran player.

The other is outdoor bowls and he is chairman of the Hurstpierpoint Bowling Club and often plays daily during fine weather.

Sussex coaching chairman David Berriman presented his annual report to the meeting.

It contained a threat that junior players will in future be required to attend county training sessions at least once a month to be eligible for selection to represent Sussex.

Local league commitments will not be accepted as a reason for non-attendance.

Poor attendance by some juniors at county sessions was suggested as a reason why Sussex players are not near the top of the national junior ranking lists.
