I read with interest that motorists face prosecution for using bus lanes (July 13).
One must ask why people prefer to use cars and why Brighton and Hove City Council thinks the Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company is the answer to public transport?
The council seems to lack knowledge on trams.
A tram system opened in July 1981 in San Diego, US. It was designed to carry 9,500 passengers a day. Reports show on Superbowl Sunday it carried 285,000.
Trams have been a success in this country. A double-deck bus carries, on average, 80 and a three-car articulated Sheffield tram carries 234.
Evidence suggests there is nothing like trams for moving large crowds.
