Nobody should smile at the introduction of more spy cameras (July 13). What safeguards will there be to protect us from misuse of these cameras?

If spy cameras are so effective, why do we have record levels of violent crime at the same time as having record numbers of spy cameras?

Would not the money spent on these cameras be better spent on more bobbies on the beat? Why are none of our local councillors and MPs opposing this attack on our civil liberties?

Let me educate Gerald Spicer, too (Letters, July 15). ID cards should be resisted because they are an attack on individual freedom.

Mr Spicer may believe the Government should know all his business and spy on him 24 hours a day but why should the rest of us tolerate this intrusion?

Let us all remember: Without privacy, there is no dignity; without dignity, there is no freedom.
