Police are investigating after thieves broke into a radio station transmitter site and put Brighton-based Juice 107.2 off the air.
They left the message "Thank you boys" scrawled on the wall in chalk.
A group of men entered the site at Sussex Heights via St Margaret's Place early on Friday and stole equipment worth up to £40,000.
The men entered through the front door and scaled all 24 floors of the skyscraper to get to a roof-mounted transmitter - the vital equipment that beams Juice to Brighton, Hove and Worthing.
The radio station, which has studios in North Street, was off air from 3am to 10am.
Juice Managing Director David Harber believes it was a professional job.
He said: "The thieves certainly knew what they were looking for. A number of key items have been stolen and could only have been targeted by people who know about radio".
Breakfast show presenter Dixie added: "For once I was silenced. It took a while to work out why nobody could hear me.
"If anyone sees the gear we've had pinched, give them a clip round the ear and tell the police".
The thieves struck at just before 3am and made off along St Margaret's Place at about 03.10am.
