Brighton has found a new love - open-air Shakespeare performed against the background of the Royal Pavilion on a summer's evening.
As the Mayor of Brighton and Hove David Watkins said as he opened the 1st Brighton Shakespeare Festival: "Eat your heart out Regent's Park."
Wayne Sleep proved he could act as well as dance with his lively portrayal of Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Wayne, who celebrated his 54th birthday in the week, was a delight to watch as he skipped, pranced and pirouetted across the lawns.
Derek Crewe as Bottom was another delight. With strong-voiced John Ioannou as Egeus and glamour provided by Erin Christy as Helena and the young Rebecca Ritters, who played Hannah Martin in Neighbours, as Peasblossom, the cast got the most out of Shakespeare's words.
As the sun set and the Royal Pavilion lit up the sky, it was a joy to watch this play and talented actors in such a setting.
