I would like to wish all Brighton and Hove City Council's Cityclean team of refuse collectors, street cleaners and managers the best of luck with their new rounds this week.
They already do an excellent job in all weathers and at all hours of the day, including weekends, and I am sure the new arrangements, with local teams covering the same area every week, will make things even better.
I hope we all help them where we can by putting out our rubbish on the right day (and not just when the bin bag is full), making sure it is bagged up securely and recycling what we can.
I hope, too, that everyone will give the new arrangements time to settle in and that the usual critics will wait before putting pen to paper at the first sign of any teething troubles just to knock the council and its hard-working public-sector employees.
To all the staff who do the difficult job of cleaning up after us, day in and day out, thanks.
-Warren Morgan, East Brighton Labour Action Team
