Animal rights protesters disrupted a university careers fair, demanding the removal of a guest speaker.
Five members of the East Sussex branch of Stop Hunting and Animal Cruelty invaded a University of Brighton lecture hall as students prepared to take part in a young scientist conference.
The group was protesting at the presence of a representative of Huntingdon Life Sciences due to speak at the conference.
The company has been embroiled in controversy over the use of animals in its research.
Protester Maz Smith, 39, from Brighton, said: "I started doing a rant explaining to everyone about the company and what they do. About 3,500 animals die each week.
"The students sat there gobsmacked to begin with and the people setting up equipment got very upset and asked us to leave.
"Then they kicked all the students out for security reasons.
"We talked to the organiser of the conference and we agreed that we would leave if we got a letter saying HLS was not welcome."
A university spokesman said: "The speaker from HLS has now withdrawn from our young scientist conference and the rest of the conference is now continuing smoothly."
