For South Central to say it is not responsible for the behaviour of people on its trains is contributing to a lawless society (The Argus, July 24).

Not only are people's lives marred by violent events. What about the trains being vandalised?

If South Central is not responsible, why does it say if anyone assaults the staff "It could all end in tears"? Why is there not publicity on every station urging people to run rampant instead?

This is not a good advertisement for South Central.

Having said that, deterrents are a good thing. Bad behaviour should be condemned and people brought to justice for committing it.

At least, then, South Central would have done its best to let the perpetrators know their behaviour has a consequence.

If South Central were the passengers, it would be saying a very different thing.
