At Worthing's first boutique hotel, guests can tour the globe on foot without even leaving the building.
Each of the Acacia's stylishly-themed bedrooms has a differently-themed decor.
For owner Nicola Cairncross, the project has been something of a return to the past.
She bought the property from her uncle, who ran it as a traditional bed and breakfast. She also lived there with her mother for five years when she was a student.
But she has not let nostalgic memories stand in the way of change.
Billed as an urban inn, The Acacia in Warwick Gardens opened yesterday.
Mrs Cairncross, 40, said: "I'm aiming to make it Worthing's first boutique hotel because I think we need one here. It's a bit different from the usual chintzy places."
About £30,000 has been spent on the refurbishment to give guests every comfort imaginable.
Taking the theme of her favourite holidays, Mrs Cairncross has decorated each room differently.
She said: "There is a New York room, which is very modern with muted colours; a Mombasa room which is full of African artefacts and looks very wild; and the Marrakech room has lavish drapery in pinks and purples."
Mrs Cairncross, who is a freelance life and business coach, was made vice-president of the Worthing Chamber of Commerce and Industry four months ago.
