The Littlehampton-based Body Shop and environmental firm C Level are backing a campaign to help people combat global warming.

C City, which is also backed by Brighton and Hove City Council, has been started a month before world leaders meet at the UN Earth Summit in South Africa.

Spokesman Ben Messer said: "C City is a campaign for Brighton and Hove to raise awareness and target action on carbon dioxide emissions and global warming.

"The aim is to break the inertia individuals and businesses feel on the issue of global warming by providing straightforward ways for them to take action and make changes."

It will ask individuals and firms to go in for climate balancing - ways to reduce actions that could lead to global warming.

The campaign seeks to achieve 9,000 switches from conventional electricity supplies to firms providing green electricity from renewable sources such as wind and water power.

Earlier this month the city council led the way by ensuring all its electricity comes from these sources in future.

Campaigners hope to bring in nine solar projects in the city including a mix of both solar hot water systems and solar electric generation.

People are also being asked to sign a global petition calling for access to renewable power for most of the world.
