Lee Poulton continued his remarkable run of form as Alfriston beat Firle to stay top of the Cuckmere Valley League.
Poulton scored his second century in four weeks with an unbeaten 106 as Alfriston rattled up 207-2 from their 40 overs. The prolific batsman has now scored 84, 108, 81, 80 not out and 106 not out in his last five knocks. On Saturday he shared an opening stand of 87 with Matthew Harmer, while Ali Batchelor added 37 later on.
Richard Gravett hit 36 in reply but Firle were bowled out for 134 with Dick Sorrell taking 5-40.
Blackboys kept up the pressure on the leaders with a seven-wicket win over third-placed Bells Yew Green. Jamie Marchant took 4-22 as the visitors were dismissed for 106 and Blackboys knocked off the runs with Mark Cogger hitting 40 not out.
Selmeston lost against Withyham. David Keating hit 39 as Withyham posted 184-7, then Chris Adams (4-18) and Richard Piper (4-25) combined to dismiss Selmeston for 54.
Jason Woodford (31 not out) led East Dean to 136-8 and that proved plenty enough as visitors Laughton were bowled out for 100 in reply.
Jon Porter top-scored with 30 while Andrew Trapp (3-20) was the pick of the bowlers.
There were two big centuries in division two. David Ellis hit 155 not out for leaders Denton, sharing an opening stand of 232 with Nick Young (91), as they beat Bells Yew Green II. Second placed Burwash Weald overcame Ridgewood with Ian Long scoring 112 not out in his first appearance of the season.
Division two: Ridgewood 203 (Naz Solaman 56) lost to Burwash Weald 243-7 (Ian Long 112no, Malcolm McLellan 43); Bells YG II 181 (S. Barton 40, J. Goddard 5-28) lost to Denton 295-2 (David Ellis 155no, Nick Young 91); Preston Village walkover v Caburn; Nutley 254-6 (Terry Sayers 63, Mark Reed 56, Ian Ritchie 51) beat Firle II 54.
IN the Mid Sussex League, a superb match saw division one leaders Balcombe beat West Hoathly by five wickets after overhauling their 261-3 total with seven balls to spare. Hoathly's Ashley Clinton hit 94 and Vaibhav Dua 84, but Bill Anthony (107) and Paul Elliott (79) steered the hosts to victory.
