Web design company KMD Consultants is top of the class after helping a college to revamp its site.

The City College Brighton and Hove already had a new name, new image and newly-refurbished buildings.

Since rebranding from Brighton College of Technology a year ago, City College has gained a new glass entrance on Pelham Street and is completing the refurbishment with the building of a new learning resource centre, student eating area and a training restaurant, The Gallery.

Creating a new web site was always high on the college's list of priorities.

College's marketing director Judy Parkes said: "Web sites are increasingly important because, when school children want to know about a college, the first place they go is to the internet.

"It also helps us because lecturers can be difficult to get hold of. A good web site means visitors can get hold of information whenever they need it."

Potential students visiting the site will be able to check on the times and dates of enrolment sessions and find out more about the courses on offer, including professional and business qualifications, basic skills and vocational programmes.

The site has information on more than 300 part-time and full-time courses and downloadable application forms.

It also encourages inquiries from students overseas.

City College has a programme for students wanting to study in the UK, including English language courses and a foundation programme for university entry.

More than 10 per cent of the student body comes from abroad.

Foreign students add to the cultural diversity of the college and, in the case of non-EU students, pay increased fees, bringing in extra income.

KMD's Matt Horner said: "It was a good project for us because the college has a relatively high profile and has been spending a lot of money sorting out its image."

He said web developers were benefiting from a trend for companies to revamp their web sites.

"Two years ago, there was quite a boom and everybody thought they needed a web site.

"Now they're re-designing their sites to help take the weight off more traditional business processes."
