Sussex schoolgirl Charlotte Kerwood won a shooting gold medal for England in the Commonwealth Games at Bisley today.
Kerwood, 15, who only began shooting seriously three years ago and only took up double trap six months ago, overcame experienced shooters in the women's double trap clay pigeon final.
"I don't really believe it," she said. "Normally I don't get very nervous but I was a little bit today."
Kerwood, whose father owns a shooting ground at Sheffield Park, will now return to Walden Park School for her GCSE year in September proudly boasting a gold medal.
She said: "It was intimidating but as the day went on it just got better and better.
"I didn't expect to get a medal at all, I just hoped to get into the final."
Kerwood was congratulated by Prince Edward and his wife the Duchess of Wessex who arrived at the range just after her success.
Earlier Mick Gault won his third gold medal of the Games in the men's 50m pistol singles.
Louise Minett won a bronze for England in the women's 10m air rifle singles.
England's Mike Babb added to the medal haul with a silver in the 50-metre rifle prone singles.
Babb led the competition most of the way but was denied England's third gold of the day as Australia's Tim Lownds overhauled him in the final stages to win by 699.8 to 699.
Babb had earlier won the pair's gold medal with England team-mate Neil Day.
