Brighton has sometimes been compared to San Francisco but gamblers are hoping the comparison will soon be with Las Vegas.
A new casino opens this week on Brighton seafront in a prestigious location.
While casinos have previously been discreet, this one can be seen plainly from the seafront and the Palace Pier.
More will undoubtedly follow now the Government is relaxing gaming laws.
Blackpool intends to lead the way in attracting casino operators but Brighton is unlikely to be far behind when the chips are down.
Judging by those already in the city, casinos cause little or no trouble and attract plenty of big spenders.
If the top operators are prepared to gamble on Brighton being a good bet for their business, the city should welcome them.
