Motorists who have been given tickets for parking illegally may have a head start on the attendants.
Driver Eddie Mitchell found out parking attendants must be properly dressed when they write tickets - and that means wearing hats.
The Argus has found out some do not, especially on hot summer days, and hundreds of motorists could now launch appeals.
Their problem may be in proving the attendants were not wearing hats at the time.
It may seem an arcane rule, but it does have a point.
Attendants have to look the part or motorists could become the victims of imposters.
Many drivers may feel it's not worth the bother of appealing, especially if they were breaking parking regulations when they got their tickets.
But some will undoubtedly use this quirky loophole in a bid to get their own back on officialdom.
An urgent message has gone out to all parking attendants to make sure they have their hats on when dishing out tickets.
If the cap fits, wear it.
