Pat massaro scored four times as new-look Three Bridges opened the County League season with a thumping 6-2 win over Wick.

As horrendous weather descended on the county, Wick were swept away by a five-star display from rampant Bridges.

There were six new signings in the Bridges line-up and two scored debut goals but Massaro, a survivor from last year, took centre stage.

New manager Micky Taylor, the former St Leonards boss, said: "We were working with Pat in training on Thursday and I am very pleased for him.

"With myself and Chick (Bain) taking over, Pat was curious to see what we had to offer but I think he realises he will be part and parcel of a good set-up which will create openings for him."

It was all square at half-time as a Steve Roberts own goal cancelled out a 36th-minute Massaro strike but three goals in a six-minute second-half spell decided the contest.

Taylor said: "I am pleased. We missed quite a few chances but delighted we created so many.

"It is the first game of the season and I would have settled for that before the game.

"But we must not get carried away. We still have a lot of work to do."

Summer signings Glen Barlow, from Redhill, and Phil Gault, from Franklands Village, were also on target while Craig Peters hit Wick's second reply.

Two other Bridges debutants, Justin Henderson and Wayne Barlow, were impressive.

County League Round-Up:

Ringmer were pleased to take a 1-1 draw away from Sidlesham, although assistant-manager Adam Brown felt it could have been more.

The Blues are still assembling a side following Glen Geard's departure just two weeks before the start of the campaign but they did enough at Sidlesham to suggest new boss Glenn Burvill has plenty to work on.

Brown, taking charge in place of the absent Burvill, said: "I think it was two points lost. We played very well. We made one or two mistakes but we are still getting to know each other.

"The lads worked ever so hard and one point is better than no points."

Aaron MacMillan put Ringmer ahead with a screaming volley just before half-time. Ben Johnson levelled on 73 minutes and only a brave tackle from James Fensome denied Sidlesham a winner late on.

Debutant Gary Norgate hit the winning goal as Arundel beat Whitehawk 1-0.

Norgate, who was picked up from Crawley Town reserves, netted in the 80th minute after latching on to a long clearance from goalkeeper Andy McCarthy before scoring at the second attempt.

Another new face, Pete Ansley, had earlier missed a good chance to put Arundel ahead.

Mullets boss Mike Rowland said: "I think we deserved it. We had two good chances in the first half.

"They didn't create a lot but it was quite an even game."

Chichester came from a goal down to win 4-2 at Hailsham, who went ahead when Ross Southwood converted a penalty.

Matt Smith started the move from which he headed the immediate equaliser from a Jamie Laidlaw cross.

Tony Stephens volleyed Chi into a half-time lead with a Roger Moore tap-in and a Neil Muphin header making sure.

Simon Stevens replied with an excellent free-kick but Hailsham boss Brian Dennis said: "The players let themselves and the club down."

There were a number of games postponed on Saturday, mostly due to the weather although the division two clash between Pease Pottage and Saltdean was scrapped because of incorrect pitch markings at Finches Field.

Lancing's match at home to Eastbourne Town was abandoned in the 39th minute with the score 0-0.

Referee Lee Bonaldi decided the pitch was unplayable following torrential rain which battered the Worthing area for an hour.

Both sides were unhappy the match started on time and would have preferred to delay the kick off for 30 minutes.

Lancing skipper Tony Miles said: "We were all surprised the game started on time because the ball wasn't rolling in the warm-up and the rain was getting heavier."

Bonaldi said: "I thought the pitch was playable at the start."
