As a member of Compassion in World Farming (CIWF), I was horrified to learn of the recent resumption of live animal exports.

If there was any good that came out of the recent, devastating foot-and-mouth epidemic in the UK, I felt it was the cessation of such exports.

This cruel trade deprives sentient beings of adequate rest, food and water on trips which can take longer than 24 hours in hot, crowded and smelly containers.

Many of the unfortunate animals die en route and those that survive end their sad lives in the diabolic conditions of overseas slaughterhouses.

That this trade has resumed is a sure sign of greed overcoming compassion and respect for our fellow creatures. CIWF is dedicated to wiping out this cruel trade and will win with the help of public support.

Readers can contact CIWF and pledge their support via the Live Exports Hotline on 01730 237 379 or find more information at the web site banliveexports.com
