Police seized 150 wraps of crack cocaine worth £7,500 after bursting into two homes and arresting eight people.

One suspect swallowed some of the drug but a second was stopped by officers.

Eight people, three of them women, were arrested, four on suspicion of drug dealing, three on warrants for other offences and one on suspicion of handling stolen property.

The raids in Brighton early yesterday were part of Operation Robust, to round up dealers, burglars, car criminals and troublemakers.

It was the second police swoop in less than a week. Four people were arrested on Thursday when police recovered heroin and cannabis.

Sergeant Nev Kemp said: "Both operations were highly successful and more are planned."

Robust is centred on The Level, London Road, Lewes Road, the A270, Hanover, Queen's Park and the Bates Estate.

Residents are receiving leaflets about the campaign. Police have been drafted in from around the city to assist.
