Boxer Chris Eubank has made a citizen's arrest after spotting a man wanted by police in connection with an alleged fraud.

The former world champion was dining at a restaurant in the Hilton Hotel, central London when he saw the 46-year-old man leaving the eatery and grappled with him outside.

Eubank, 36, held on to the man during the "arrest" in the early hours of yesterday and waited until police arrived.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "The 36-year-old man who detained the suspect had been out for a meal at Trader Vics restaurant, part of the hotel.

"He recognised the suspect leaving the restaurant as being wanted by police in connection with a fraud in which his friend had been the victim.

"The 36-year-old member of the public detained the man and contacted police at 20 minutes past midnight."

The original allegation of fraud was made last February the spokesman said.

The man detained by Eubank was arrested by police and later bailed to return to a central London police station in September.
