The university launches its new centre for contemporary visual arts with an exhibition of work by the 1996 Turner Prize winner.

The exhibition features one work: A sound and installation piece entitled What You Want Me To Say, 1999.

The work, which is being shown in the UK for the first time, was born out of Gordon's interest in film, fiction and memory.

It was made after a viewing of the film Brighton Rock.

Comprising speakers and long winding wires, the words "what you want me to say" (a quote from the movie) are projected from the installation.

Gordon was born in Glasgow in 1966 and studied at both Glasgow School of Art and the Slade School of Art, London.

Since then, his work has featured at major international solo exhibitions and he now lives in Glasgow and New York.
