Child pornography was found on a man's computer when he took it in to be repaired, a court heard.
Paul Simms, 33, of Norfolk Road, Littlehampton, admitted a charge of possessing indecent photographs of children when he appeared before Worthing magistrates yesterday.
Sally Coles, prosecuting, told the court police went to Simms' home with a search warrant after they were tipped off by the repair shop.
When they searched Simms' home they found more photographs on a floppy disc downloaded from the internet.
One of the pictures appeared to be of a child of 12.
Mrs Coles said: "The police found 38 images of children. There is a scale of one to ten in regards to the seriousness of such photographs and these were in the seven to nine category."
She said there was no suggestion Mills was distributing the pictures.
She said: "In this case the photographs were for personal use. In a police interview Simms said that he went into chat rooms and had the images sent to him."
The case was adjourned until October 2 for sentencing. Simms was granted bail.
