On reaching the age of 80, 25p a week is paid with retirement pension.
The rate of age addition was specified in the Social Security Act 1975 and has not been reviewed since its introduction.
This addition would not buy a first-class postage stamp today.
With the review of MPs' pensions, it would appear there is an attitude of "I'm all right, Jack".
