Glyndebourne's festival opera season draws to a close this weekend with two dazzling shows.
A lavish and extravagant production, Bizet's Carmen soon became one of the most popular operas of all time.
When composing Carmen, Bizet moved far away from the traditional opera-comique that audiences expected, instead incorporating an anti-heroine, disreputable female factory workers, smugglers, immoral soldiers and a murder on stage.
Anne Sofie von Otter undertakes the title role in her Glyndebourne debut.
Tickets cost £10 to £140. Call 01273 813813.
