Andy Wignall continues to show improvement despite dropping three places in the BEMSEE club's Nationwide Supersport championship.
His debut season in road racing was always going to be a learning curve for the 33-year-old from Hove.
Early results were good and Wignall had climbed to fourth in the championship with five rounds remaining.
However, after missing the rounds in France due to a lack of funds and then two non-finishes he has slipped to seventh overall aboard his Yamaha R6 600.
At Cadwell Park last weekend there was a strong field for the meeting. A crash in practice on Friday did not help Wignall. In the first race on Saturday he finished 14th but was tenth until making a mistake on the last lap and in race two he was a disappointing 16th.
Wignall said: "In race two I had an awful start. I got the front way too high and lost a number of places. I got on to the back of a gaggle of nine riders who were bumping and brawling all the way round, sometimes four abreast.
"Considering Cadwell's a thin and difficult circuit to overtake, it got a bit hairy."
The nine riders finished within four seconds of each other. Wignall was two seconds adrift of his best time from race one.
At the previous meeting at Oulton Park, Wignall posted seventh in race one but pulled out of race two after a couple of laps due to oil on the track.
He explained: "I have only one race bike and it wasn't worth the risk of crashing. A wrecked bike would end my season. Racing is dangerous enough without added risks."
On the Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch, Wignall finished 13th and 11th on day one and followed that with 12th and a retirement on day two. He also took eighth in the Champion of Brands race.
Wignall, who gets help from P&H Brighton, is looking for additional support.
