Iona Botting (Argus August16) is one of many local residents who would like to see George Street's pedestrianised hours extended past the current 4pm time slot.
Recently, a number of community groups in Vallance ward have said much the same. They are unhappy at the four o'clock rush down George Street, which undermines the quality environment Brighton and Hove City Council has created in Hove's premier shopping street.
Many local traders now work hard to promote the vitality of Hove's centre, in stark contrast to those that mounted a costly and pointless campaign against pedestrianisation a few years ago.
Four years on from the time pedestrianisation was first introduced, it is important we look to extend the benefits for a longer period of time.
However, it is equally important to ensure the timing of this change is carefully considered and includes consultation with local people and traders.
