There seem to be problems with rubbish collection in Brighton and Hove and the gulls seem busy with its distribution on the pavements and roads of our city.
May a former resident of New Jersey, US, where black bears frequently break green rubbish bags, make a few suggestions?
Use the thickest bags you can find. You will find them at Jim's Tools in Upper Gardner Street, Brighton, or at the stall he has on Sunday at the station market.
Double-bag your rubbish and, just before putting it out, give it a generous spray of air freshener or deodorant. This will ensure the gulls will leave your bags alone.
If your rubbish is not collected, transport it by car, taxi or bus to the mayor's office at the Town Hall, where it will be moved on promptly.
As a courtesy, you could call the office first to let the mayor know about your delivery. The number is 01273 291223.
