Sussex paid tribute to murdered schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman at the weekend.

Organisations across the county joined in a one-minute silence in their memory.

The tribute was originally organised by the Football League and took place just before games kicked off nationwide at 3pm on Saturday.

Such was the shock felt by the deaths of the Cambridgeshire schoolgirls that the remembrance quickly spread to other organisations.

Brighton and Hove Albion team mates stood with their heads bowed on the pitch at Wimbledon.

At the same time, minor league clubs across Sussex held their own tributes.

Crawley Town first team joined in the minute's silence at their away game against Tamworth while the reserves mirrored the scenes at the Crawley ground.

In Brighton, visitors to the Sealife Centre in Marine Parade were asked to stand in silent tribute at 3pm.

Sussex County Cricket Club joined Lancashire in a tribute before play started at the County Ground in Hove on Saturday morning.

Shoppers at the Asda superstore at Hollingbury, Brighton, also stood in silence at 3pm.

Similar tributes were also planned at nationwide racing and rugby events.

School caretaker Ian Huntley, 28, from Soham, Cambridgeshire, has been charged with murdering Holly and Jessica.

His girlfriend Maxine Carr, 25, is charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
