Sussex Enterprise is urging the Government to think again about the proposed closure of up to 80 neighbourhood post offices across Sussex.

Throughout the country up to 3,000 post offices may shut, resulting in 40,000 job losses.

Director Mike Cook said:

"Rather than spending millions on the cosmetic name change to Consignia, the Government should look to invest in the neighbourhood services and consider the consequences that inconvenience and additional expense will bring.

"So far, it has failed in the quest with a new name to reflect a wider role.

"Businesses across Brighton and Hove have not been consulted about the proposed closures and we are urging the Government to listen to ensure that the least possible damage is done to community and business interests across the county.

"If the Consignia plan goes ahead, 95 per cent of urban users will live within one mile of a post office instead of the current half-a-mile."
