Having been chastised somewhat of late for not writing about British supporting actors, even though my theme is Hollywood supporting actors of the Thirties an Forties, I offer -in my opinion - one of the greatest British supporting actors, Sydney Greenstreet.
After a long stage career, Sidney made his stage bow in The Maltese Falcon at the age of 61.
Allied to Peter Lorre many times, they made a sinister pair and created a comic cameo in Hollywood Canteen. Sydney's guttural belly-laugh was his main stock in trade, accompanied by wide, staring eyes.
