The week before last, the Government actuarial department issued a report stating that, by 2040, the population of the UK will have been swollen by 15 million immigrants, though this news item was barely mentioned in August's silly season.
At the same time it says this figure will be balanced by 10 million people leaving this country. That still leaves a five-million increase or about 10 per cent more people.
As the indigenous population is roughly stable, where do all these people come from and how will they be housed?
The Argus (August 14) reported that we have a housing shortage in the South East with 5,000 people waiting for council houses in the area. Developers are keen to build more houses on greenfield sites. Do we have to cover our green belt with more concrete? What about already overcrowded trains, roads, schools, GPs' surgeries, hospitals and care homes?
