A man died when his car exploded into a fireball after a late-night crash.
The accident happened on the A24 between Findon Valley, Worthing, and Findon village at about 11.35pm on Sunday.
Police said the dead man was driving a Ford Fiesta when it spun out of control and collided with a Renault Clio carrying two people.
When firefighters arrived, the Fiesta was well alight.
The driver of the Clio, a 77-year-old woman from Worthing, and her passenger, a man aged 42, were taken to Worthing Hospital with possible broken bones.
Firefighter Pete Martin said: "This was a tragic accident.
"The cause of the road traffic accident and subsequent fire is being investigated by West Sussex Fire Brigade and Sussex Police."
Police, who operate data protection guidelines, have not yet named any of those involved in the accident.
