Four new consultant paediatricians have joined the Royal Alexandra children's hospital in Brighton.
All four plan to use their experience to develop the Royal Alex into a centre of excellence.
The hospital will move to the Royal Sussex County Hospital site in Brighton by 2007.
This, coupled with the opening of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School next September, will lead to the development of children's services.
Areas where there are plans for development include include diabetes, obesity, child protection, gastroenterology, intensive care and complementary medicine.
The four consultants are Shankar Kanumakala, Kamal Patel, Assad Butt and Tony Bonavia.
Dr Patel said: "The paediatrics service for this area is going to be expanding.
"Our aim is for local people get access to the best expertise possible."
